This follow spot has a throw of 200+ feet. It's perfect for a regional production house that needs a long throw and doesn't want to spend five grand (I'm in that category).
I upgraded a couple things for the light. I used a 17R YOND PLATNUM MSD 350S17 bulb. This bulb is used in a lot in the high end moving heads (The ,000 + moving heads). I also upgraded the spot stand to a very stable and solid stainless steel.
Couple years back, I bought some 230W LED follow spots. They worked very well but the stand was a bit shaky. Not good when your shooting 150 feet trying to keep a tight beam on the talent.
I was going to do the LED again. I mentioned that the distance/throw was a big deal to me. My rep said, the LED bulbs last forever
but
the 17R throws
way
farther. So here we are. The 17R YOND Bulb is good for 1500 hours. I will stock replacements for down the road when/if you need it.
